Find Home Grown Produce at Your Local Store

As Sales Manager for one of our company’s produce buying offices, my job is to coordinate the produce buyers and floral buyers along with the field inspector in our region.

During the months of June, July and August, your local store carries produce from local growers. Fresh, home grown produce can provide significant advantages.

For instance, purchasing from local farmers helps the economy in the communities we serve. Our company has a long history of supporting our hometowns.

There are other advantages, too. Local produce can be delivered to your store very quickly. Faster shipping means even fresher produce for you. Items can be picked and packed at a more mature stage. This can really bring out the taste of the product. The variety, quality and the larger sizing are benefits, as well.

Eating locally grown food also means less fossil fuel burned in preparation and transport – and less energy needed to refrigerate during transportation.

Many people are unaware that our company has produce buying offices throughout the country. All of our offices have field inspectors. Our inspectors travel out to the farms to carefully examine produce in the fields near your store. They make sure that growers are following our guidelines on quality and sanitation. We are the only grocery store that has our own inspectors look at product throughout the process – in the field, during harvest, after harvest, during loading, after transportation to our Distribution Center and, at times, directly in our stores.

Look for locally grown produce during your next visit to your store. You’ll be getting great quality at an outstanding price – while supporting your local economy, too!
