Columbus Kroger Division Celebrates Black History Month with a Student Art/Essay/Poetry Contest
I AM MAKING HISTORY is a contest open to students in select Ohio and West Virginia cities and the Lambertville, MI area in the Columbus Kroger Division in grades four through twelve, with the deadline for submission on Friday January 30, 2009. Entries must be each student's original work, with one entry per student.
Students will participate by submitting artwork, an essay or poetry highlighting one of two themes "How are you and/or your community making history?" or "What does Black History Month mean to me?". All entries must have a completed application and permission form attached to the submission.
PRIZES for all three contests include:
Six $1,500 scholarships will be awarded to 11th and 12th grade students.
Twenty-one laptop computers will be awarded to 4th grade-10th grade students.
Twenty-seven Family Trip Packs (for 4) will be awarded. Family trip pack includes 4 passes to National Underground Railroad Freedom Center in Cincinnati, Ohio and a $50 gift card to a local restaurant.
All entries will be judged by an independant organization and contest winners will be notified by mail by February 20, 2009.
