DIY St. Patrick's Day Clover Garland

Green paper garland streamers cut into shamrock shapes

Even if you're not Irish, the iconic symbols of St. Patrick's Day are inherently festive. Those who live in northern climates are hankering for hints of springtime greenery to signal the changing season.

Here are two easy, Paddy-perfect decorations you can whip up in a flash to embrace the Emerald Isle in your home.

Jolly Green Garland

Create a bit o' shamrock joy to showcase on your mantel, doorway, or just about anywhere you wish!

Things You'll Need:

  • Green crepe paper streamer
  • Small piece of poster board or heavy paper
  • Pen or marker
  • Scissors

Directions:

  1. Cut a piece of crepe paper to your desired length. Fold it, accordion style. You don't want the paper to be too thick once folded, as you will be cutting through it with the scissors.
  2. Draw a shamrock shape on the posterboard and cut it out. This will be your template. Trace the shape onto the folded streamer. You can also draw freehand, directly onto the folded streamer. You'll want your shamrock to be just a tiny bit wider than the folded streamer, about 1-3/4"x 2".
  3. Cut out the shamrock shape, being careful not to cut through the folded edges of the streamer.
  4. Carefully pull apart to reveal your garland.
  5. Create several garlands using different shades of green for even more festivity.

Blarney Carnies

Don't buy green carnations-make your own! It's simple and fun to see the magic happen when the stems soak up the green water, resulting in green-tinged petals.

Things You'll Need:

  • Fresh white carnations, size and variety of your choice
  • Green food coloring
  • A vase large enough to hold the flowers

Directions:

  1. Add several drops of green food coloring to vase of water.
  2. Give the carnation stems a fresh cut.
  3. Place the stems in the vase, letting flowers sit overnight or until petals turn green.
