After her husband had abandoned her with three small children, Kiera Malone had vowed never to let another man into her life, much less into her heart. It took two decades for another man to convince her to trust again. But when her beloved has a fatal heart attack on the very day she finally accepted his proposal of marriage, she is left gutted. While Keira is mourning in Dublin, her daughter, Moira O'Brien, and various members of the O'Brien clan back in Chesapeake Shores, are convinced that what Keira needs now is to be back in Virginia surrounded by family and friends. Moira knows Keira won't want to be a charity case, so she asks her to come help with her new-born daughter (Keira's first grandchild) and to work in the local Irish pub, O'Brien's, owned by Moira's husband, Luke. What Keira doesn't count on is the handsome but surly new chef at the pub, Bryan Laramie. It becomes virtual kitchen wars as these two-strong-minded people argue over just about everything in or out of the kitchen. When Keira inadvertently rents a small cottage on Lilac Lane next to Bryan's home, they're forced to see each other even more often. Eventually, the two get to know one another and realize they each share some similar past pains when the daughter Bryan never new shows up on his doorstep one day. Love will eventually heal all past scars. The story culminates with the town Fall Festival featuring and Irish stew cook-off and plans for Keira and Bryan to become partners in life and in opening a new restaurant.
