Agua de Manzana (Apple Water)

This Peruvian beverage is not only delicious and refreshing, but a good way to avoid artificial sugary beverages.

  • 2 lbs. Granny Smith apples, peeled, cored, and chopped
  • 3 cinnamon sticks
  • 6 ground allspice
  • 3 ground cloves
  • 8 cups water
  • 6 Tbsp. sugar


  • Put apples, cinnamon, allspice, cloves, and 8 cups water in a saucepan. Bring to a boil over high heat, turn the heat down to low, and simmer, partially covered, for 35 minutes or until the apples are very tender. Turn off the heat and cool.
  • Discard the spices, pass through a strainer, and add sugar. Serve cold. Keep refrigerated.
