Apple Chutney

Try this as a side for pork dishes instead of applesauce. It also is wonderful with hearty winter squash.

Ingredients

  • 3 Granny Smith apples, peeled, cored and diced
  • 1 Tbsp. fresh lemon juice
  • ½ cup white wine vinegar
  • ¼ cup sugar
  • 1 shallot, minced
  • 1 Tbsp. freshly grated lemon zest
  • ¼ cup golden raisins
  • ½ tsp. ground cinnamon

Directions

  • Toss the apples with the lemon juice in a large saucepan. Add 1 cup water, white wine vinegar, sugar, shallot, lemon zest, golden raisins, and cinnamon. Bring to a simmer and cook until apples are softened and sauce is thickened, 30 minutes. Store refrigerated.
