Asian Grilled Shrimp

This dish is all about the sauce. Fresh seafood doesn’t need much seasoning. When grilled, its natural sweetness complements the sauce very well.

  • 1½ Tbsp. minced garlic
  • 2 tsp. minced Thai chilies
  • 1 tsp. minced cilantro
  • ¼ tsp. salt
  • 1 Tbsp. sugar
  • 2 Tbsp. lime juice
  • ⅓ cup water
  • 1 Tbsp. fish sauce
  • 8 large shrimp


  • Preheat grill.
  • Mix garlic, chilies, cilantro, salt, sugar, lime juice, water, and fish sauce in a small bowl. Stir to dissolve sugar.
  • Wrap shrimp in aluminum foil or banana leaves and grill over medium flame until cooked, about 8–10 minutes. Serve with sauce.
