Balsamic Caramelized Red Onions
Caramelized onions are a delicious addition to any burger and to many other dishes. You can also use large, sweet, white onions such as Vidalias or Bermudas.

- 4 large red onions, peeled and sliced
- ½ stick unsalted butter
- 2 Tbsp. balsamic vinegar
- 1 tsp. sugar
- 1 tsp. salt
- ½ tsp. ground black pepper
- Place the onions, butter, balsamic vinegar, and sugar in a large sauté pan over low heat. Sauté gently, stirring frequently, until onions are softened and browned, about 40 minutes.
- When the onions are brown but not burned, place them in a bowl, add salt and pepper, and serve. These can be made well in advance and stored in a covered jar in the refrigerator.
