Barbecue Sauce with Bourbon

Here’s a delicious bourbon barbecue sauce to use on beef, chicken, or pork—you can also serve it on the side.

Ingredients

  • 3 Tbsp. butter
  • ¼ cup canola oil
  • 1½ cups chopped sweet onion
  • 1 medium clove garlic, minced
  • ½ cup good-quality bourbon
  • ¾ cup ketchup
  • ½ cup orange juice
  • ½ cup apple cider vinegar
  • ½ cup light brown sugar
  • ¼ cup light molasses
  • 1 Tbsp. Worcestershire sauce
  • ¼ tsp. ground black pepper
  • ½ tsp. salt

Directions

  • In a medium saucepan, combine butter and oil over medium-low heat; add onion and garlic. Cook, stirring occasionally, until onion is tender.
  • Add remaining ingredients, stirring to blend. Reduce heat to low; cook for about 30–45 minutes, stirring frequently, until reduced and thickened.
  • Cover tightly and store in the refrigerator for up to 10 days.
