Basic Brown Rice

Brown rice makes an excellent breakfast cereal substitute for those with gluten intolerance. It’s wonderful with fresh or dried fruits and berries.

  • 2½ cups water
  • 1 tsp. salt
  • 1 Tbsp. olive oil
  • 1½ cups uncooked brown rice


  • Preheat oven to 375°F.
  • Combine the water, salt, and olive oil in a saucepan and bring to a boil.
  • Put the brown rice in a 2-quart baking dish and pour the boiling water mixture over it. Stir, cover with foil, and bake for 60 minutes. Fluff with a fork and serve hot.
