Basic Sticky Rice

Sticky rice is common in many Asian cuisines. You can serve it in place of regular rice or in many Asian recipes.

  • 1 cup short-grain sticky rice
  • 2 cups water


  • Rinse rice well. Place in a bowl with enough water to cover and soak for at least 2 hours, preferably overnight. Drain well.
  • Place the rice and water in a medium saucepan over medium-high heat and bring to a boil, covered.
  • Reduce the heat to low. Do not remove the lid. Simmer for 20 minutes. Let cool for 15 minutes before serving.
