Chili Sloppy Joes

These can also be served over tortilla chips. For extra flavor, top with shredded Cheddar or Monterey Jack cheese before serving.

Ingredients

  • 2 tsp. butter
  • 1 medium yellow onion, peeled and chopped
  • 2 lbs. ground beef
  • 2 cups tomato sauce
  • 4 Tbsp. tomato paste
  • 1 cup water
  • 1 tsp. ground cumin
  • 1 Tbsp. chili powder
  • 2 tsp. sugar
  • 8 hamburger rolls

Directions

  • Heat the butter over medium-high heat in a large skillet. Add the onion. Cook for 1 minute. Add the ground beef and sauté until browned, about 8 minutes. Drain off any excess fat.
  • Add the tomato sauce, tomato paste, and water. Mix thoroughly and stir in the ground cumin, chili powder, and sugar. Bring to a boil.
  • Cover, reduce heat to low, and simmer for 25 minutes until heated thoroughly. Spoon the meat mixture over the hamburger rolls.
