Citrus Green Beans

Tender and crisp green beans are perked up with lemon and orange juice in this simple side dish.

  • 1½ lbs. fresh green beans
  • 3 Tbsp. butter
  • 3 cloves garlic, minced
  • 2 Tbsp. lemon juice
  • ¼ cup orange juice
  • 1 tsp. grated orange zest
  • 1 tsp. salt
  • ⅛ tsp. white pepper


  • Bring a large pot of salted water to a boil. Trim green beans and rinse off. Add to water and bring back to a simmer. Cook for 3 minutes, then drain.
  • In large skillet, melt butter and add garlic. Cook over medium heat until garlic is fragrant, about 2 minutes. Then add green beans; cook and stir for 3 to 5 minutes or until beans are crisp-tender. Stir in lemon juice, orange juice, orange zest, salt, and pepper, and heat through.
