Classic Marinara Sauce

Marinara sauce is a basic Italian tomato sauce made with onions and herbs.

Ingredients

  • 1 Tbsp. olive oil
  • 1 onion, minced
  • 4 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1 can (14 oz.) crushed tomatoes, undrained
  • 1 can (8 oz.) tomato sauce
  • 1 can (6 oz.) tomato paste
  • 1 tsp. dried oregano leaves
  • ⅛ tsp. salt
  • 1 tsp. sugar
  • ⅛ tsp. pepper
  • ¼ cup fresh basil leaves

Directions

  • In a large saucepan, heat olive oil over medium heat. Add onion and garlic; cook and stir for 5 minutes. Add all remaining ingredients except basil and bring to a simmer.
  • Reduce heat, partially cover pan, and simmer for 10 to 15 minutes or until slightly thickened. Stir in basil and serve hot.
