This fresh alternative to canned cranberry sauce is quick, easy and delicious.

- 1 cup sugar
- ½ cup water
- ¼ cup orange juice
- 2 cups fresh cranberries
- 1 tsp. grated orange zest
- In a medium-size saucepan combine the sugar, water, and orange juice. Bring to a boil; reduce heat and simmer for 5 minutes.
- Add the cranberries to the simmering liquid and stir over medium heat for 5 minutes, until the berries pop. Stir the orange zest into the cranberries; remove from the heat.
- Let the sauce cool to room temperature; then chill it in the refrigerator.
