Creamy Slow Cooker Hot Chocolate

You can easily make this recipe dairy-free by using your favorite nondairy milk to replace the milk and half-and-half. If you like the flavor of coconut milk, it has a super creamy texture for hot chocolate.

  • ⅓ cup unsweetened cocoa powder
  • ½ cup sugar
  • ¼ tsp. salt
  • ⅓ cup hot water
  • 3½ cups whole milk
  • 1 Tbsp. vanilla extract
  • ½ cup half-and-half


  • In the bottom of a 2.5–4-quart slow cooker, whisk together the cocoa powder, sugar, and salt. Slowly whisk in the hot water, milk, and vanilla. Cover the slow cooker and cook on high for 1½ hours or on low for 3 hours.
  • Right before serving whisk in the half-and-half, and heat another 5–10 minutes, just long enough to heat through.
