Crumb Cake

Ingredients

  • ½ cup butter, softened
  • 1 cup sugar
  • 2 cups all-purpose flour
  • ⅛ tsp. salt
  • 1 tsp. baking soda
  • 1 tsp. ground cinnamon
  • ¼ tsp. ground nutmeg
  • ½ tsp. ground cloves
  • 1 large egg
  • 1 Tbsp. dark molasses
  • 1 cup buttermilk

Directions

  • Preheat oven to 350°F. Grease and flour an 8" square pan.
  • Mix together the first 8 ingredients. Set aside ½ cup of the mixture and, to the remainder, add the egg, molasses, and buttermilk. Beat well, pour into 8" pan. Sprinkle the reserved flour-butter mixture evenly over the top.
  • Bake for 40 minutes, or until a knife comes out clean. Cool in the pan.
