- 2 Tbsp. sesame oil
- 1 medium onion, peeled and thinly sliced
- 1 tsp. ground cumin
- 1 tsp. ground coriander
- 1 cup dried red lentils
- 2 cups water
- 1 tsp. salt
- ½ tsp. ground turmeric
- ¼ tsp. cayenne pepper
- In a large saucepan, heat the sesame oil over medium heat. Add the onion and sauté until soft, about 5 minutes. Add the cumin and coriander, and cook for 5 minutes longer.
- Meanwhile, In a saucepan, combine the lentils, water, salt, turmeric, and cayenne pepper. Bring to a boil over high heat. Add the onion mixture to the lentils. Reduce heat to medium-low, cover, and cook until the lentils are tender, about 30 minutes.
