Easy Dhal

  • 2 Tbsp. sesame oil
  • 1 medium onion, peeled and thinly sliced
  • 1 tsp. ground cumin
  • 1 tsp. ground coriander
  • 1 cup dried red lentils
  • 2 cups water
  • 1 tsp. salt
  • ½ tsp. ground turmeric
  • ¼ tsp. cayenne pepper


  • In a large saucepan, heat the sesame oil over medium heat. Add the onion and sauté until soft, about 5 minutes. Add the cumin and coriander, and cook for 5 minutes longer.
  • Meanwhile, In a saucepan, combine the lentils, water, salt, turmeric, and cayenne pepper. Bring to a boil over high heat. Add the onion mixture to the lentils. Reduce heat to medium-low, cover, and cook until the lentils are tender, about 30 minutes.
