Essential Chocolate Frosting

  • ¼ cup butter, softened
  • 2 cups confectioners’ sugar
  • 2 oz. semisweet chocolate, melted and cooled
  • ½ tsp. vanilla extract
  • ⅛ tsp. salt
  • 2 or 3 Tbsp. light cream


  • In a bowl, cream the butter until light. Gradually stir in 1 cup of the confectioners’ sugar, then the melted chocolate, and then the rest of the sugar as needed. Stir in the vanilla, salt, and enough cream to create a good frosting consistency. Blend well.
