Five-Ingredient Mac and Cheese

This homemade stovetop mac and cheese is almost as quick and just as easy as the boxed stuff, but oh, so much better.

Ingredients

  • Salt
  • 1 pound elbow macaroni
  • 1 1⁄2 cups whole milk
  • 2 oz. cream cheese, cubed and softened
  • 3 cups shredded sharp cheddar cheese

Directions

  • Bring large pot of water to a boil. Season with salt and cook macaroni according to package directions, then drain.
  • Meanwhile, in medium pot, heat milk over medium heat until it starts to steam. Reduce heat to low, then add cream cheese; stir until smooth. Add 1 cups cheese and stir until melted. Add remaining 1 cups cheese; stir until smooth and creamy. Taste and season with salt, as needed.
  • Return drained macaroni to empty pot, add sauce and stir until coated. The sauce will thicken as it cools. Serve, refrigerating any leftovers.
