Five-Spice Rice

This recipe uses a Chinese five-spice powder that is a powerhouse of healing benefits. The spices include star anise, cloves, cinnamon, Sichuan pepper, and fennel seeds. The star anise and Sichuan pepper make it a perfect dish to eat if you have a cold or the flu.

Ingredients

  • 1 Tbsp. sesame oil
  • 1 cup brown rice
  • 1⁄2 tsp. sea salt
  • 1 tsp. five-spice powder
  • 1 Tbsp. minced fresh ginger
  • 1⁄2 cup chopped scallion
  • 1 cup frozen peas, defrosted
  • 2 Tbsp. Bragg Liquid Aminos
  • 1 cup chicken broth
  • 1 cup water

Directions

  • Mix all the ingredients in a rice cooker and cook for 40 minutes or put in a flameproof, covered casserole and bake for 40 minutes at 350°F or until the liquid is absorbed.
