Fresh Apple Cake

Ingredients

  • 2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 2 cups sugar
  • ½ tsp. salt
  • 2 tsp. baking soda
  • 1 tsp. ground cinnamon
  • ½ tsp. ground nutmeg
  • 4 cups peeled and diced apples
  • ¾ cup milk
  • 2 large eggs
  • ½ cup vegetable shortening
  • ½ cup chopped walnuts

Directions

  • Preheat oven to 325°F. Grease a 9" × 12" pan.
  • Sift together flour, sugar, salt, baking soda, cinnamon, and nutmeg into a large bowl. Add the apples, eggs, and milk. Beat until well mixed. Cream the shortening in a separate bowl and add to the batter. Pour into the prepared pan.
  • Bake for 1 hour, or until a knife comes out clean. Turn onto a rack and cool.
