Fried Sweet Plantain Strips

Plantains are popular in the Caribbean, Mexico, Central and South America where they are eaten both savory and sweet. Plantains became sweet as they ripen. They'll be green when you buy them, just let them ripen until the peel is almost black.

  • 3 ripe plantains
  • 4 Tbsp. (½ stick) butter
  • ½ tsp. salt


  • Remove the skins from the plantains; cut plantains in half crosswise and then cut each pieces lengthwise.
  • In a large skillet over medium-high heat, melt butter. Add plantains strips; fry until browned on each side and tender throughout, about 4 minutes each side. Transfer to a plate lined with paper towels and sprinkle with salt.
