German Spice Cake

This spice cake has a unique flavor that will have your friends talking about it long after they’ve enjoyed it. It tastes especially good paired with a cup of coffee.

  • nonstick cooking spray
  • 4 cups all-purpose flour
  • 2 tsp. baking powder
  • 2 tsp. baking soda
  • 3 tsp. ground cinnamon
  • 1 tsp. ground nutmeg
  • 1 tsp. ground allspice
  • 1⁄4 tsp. ground cloves
  • 1 tsp. ground ginger
  • 1 1⁄2 Tbsp. molasses
  • 1 cup hot coffee
  • 1 cup cold water
  • 1 cup brown sugar
  • 1 cup granulated sugar
  • 1 cup honey


  • Preheat oven to 350°F. Spray a loaf pan with nonstick cooking spray.
  • In a large bowl, stir together flour, baking powder, baking soda, cinnamon, nutmeg, allspice, cloves, and ginger. Stir in molasses, coffee, water, brown sugar, granulated sugar, and honey.
  • Pour batter into prepared pan. Bake at 350°F for 30 minutes, then 300°F for 30 minutes. The cake is done when a toothpick inserted into the middle of the cake comes out clean. Cool before serving.
