Gingerbread Men
This is very soft dough; be sure to keep it well chilled and allow plenty of room on the cookie sheet for the dough to spread.

Ingredients
- 1 cup packed dark brown sugar
- 3⁄4 cup granulated sugar
- 1⁄2 cup vegetable shortening
- 2 large eggs
- 1⁄4 cup molasses
- 1⁄2 tsp. vanilla extract
- 2 cups all-purpose flour
- 1 tsp. baking soda
- 1 tsp. baking powder
- 1 1⁄2 tsp. ground ginger
- 1 tsp. salt
- 1 tsp. ground cinnamon
- 1⁄4 tsp. ground white pepper
- 1⁄4 tsp. ground cloves
- 1⁄2 cup turbinado sugar
Directions
- Cream together sugars and shortening until fluffy. Add eggs, molasses, and vanilla.
- Whisk together flour, baking soda, baking powder, ginger, salt, cinnamon, pepper, and cloves; add to shortening mixture. Blend well. Chill overnight.
- Preheat oven to 300°F. Line 2 large baking sheets with parchment paper.
- Roll dough 1⁄8 inch thick on heavily floured surface. Cut with floured cookie cutters and transfer to prepared baking sheets. Sprinkle with turbinado sugar.
- Bake 15 to 18 minutes.
