Gluten-Free Orange Sour Cream French Toast

This is French toast with the refreshing tang of citrus.

  • 6 large eggs
  • 1⁄2 cup sour cream
  • 1⁄2 cup whole milk
  • 1⁄2 tsp. orange zest
  • 1 Tbsp. granulated sugar
  • 1 tsp. pure vanilla extract
  • 1⁄2 tsp. salt
  • 1 loaf day-old gluten-free white sandwich bread such as Udi’s Gluten Free Bread
  • 2 Tbsp. butter


  • In a shallow baking dish or pie plate, whisk together the eggs, sour cream, milk, orange zest, sugar, vanilla, and salt. Place a few slices of the bread in the mixture, turn over, and allow to soak in the liquid for 2 to 3 minutes.
  • Heat butter in a skillet over medium-high heat. Working in batches, place each piece of soaked bread in the skillet and cook on each side until golden brown, about 2 to 3 minutes per side. Keep warm in a 200°F oven until ready to serve.
