Indian Spiced Chai

This popular Asian beverage is made with brewed black tea, milk, and spices. There are numerous recipes for chai; the most popular, Masala chai, is a spicy beverage containing many of the same spices found in Indian curries.

  • 1 cup water
  • 2 black tea bags
  • 1 cup light cream
  • 1 1⁄2 tsp. granulated sugar
  • 1⁄4 tsp. ground cardamom
  • 1⁄8 tsp. ground ginger
  • 1⁄4 tsp. ground cinnamon


  • Bring the water to a boil. Add the tea and let steep for 3 minutes.
  • While the tea is steeping, in a small saucepan, bring the cream, sugar, ground cardamom, ground ginger, and ground cinnamon to a boil, stirring to dissolve the sugar. Add the brewed tea to the milk and spices.
  • Simmer for a minutes and serve.
