Jasmine Rice (Kao)
Rice is a crucial part of Thai cuisine. It is so important that the term “eat rice" means to eat a meal.

- 1 cup white jasmine rice
- 1½ cups water
- Add rice and water to a medium saucepan and stir. Bring the water to a boil, turn the heat down to very low, cover the pan, and let the rice simmer for about 10–12 minutes. Check after 10 minutes. When the water is all absorbed, the rice is done. Keep the cover on for another 5 minutes so the rice will fluff up. Serve.
