Kentucky Mint Julep

Serve mint juleps in a traditional silver julep cup, if you have one; otherwise, a glass will do just fine! Stir the ice a bit to frost the julep cup, or serve in frosted glasses.

- 2 cups sugar
- 2 cups water
- ¼ cup fresh mint leaves
- Small ice cubes or crushed ice
- 5 cups Kentucky bourbon
- In a medium saucepan, combine sugar and water; heat over medium-low heat until hot and clear. Remove from heat. Put mint leaves in a cup and bruise by gently pressing leaves against the sides of the cup with a spoon. Stir leaves into syrup and let steep for 20 minutes.
- Fill a julep cup or glass with ice, then add 1 tablespoon of the syrup and 2 ounces of bourbon.
