Limoncello

The famous lemon liqueur from southern Italy is easy to make at home – all you need is some lemons, vodka and time.

Ingredients
- 1 liter 100-proof vodka
- Peels of 3-4 lemons
- 1 1⁄2 cups water
- 2 cups granulated sugar
Directions
- Pour the vodka into a large glass jar. Add the lemon peels. Seal and set aside for 3 days.
- After 3 days, fill a large saucepan with 1½ cups water. Add the sugar and bring to a boil; stirring frequently. Cook uncovered at a low boil for 4-5 minutes. Remove from heat and cool to room temperature. Add the vodka and lemon peels and set aside for 1 hour.
- Discard the lemon peels. Use a funnel to pour the vodka into bottles and seal tightly. Place in the freezer for 6-8 hours to chill completely. Store in the freezer, so that the drink is cold when ready to serve.
