Monte Cristo

A turkey and ham sandwich is dipped in French toast custard mixture and pan-fried in butter to make this heavenly brunch sandwich. Fresh melon slices, a sprinkle of confectioners' sugar, and warm maple syrup in a ramekin complete the plate.

  • 4 slices buttermilk bread
  • 4 Tbsp. butter
  • 2 slices Cheddar cheese
  • 2 slices Swiss cheese
  • 6 slices smoked turkey
  • 6 slices ham
  • 2 eggs
  • 1⁄3 cup whole milk
  • 1⁄4 tsp. vanilla extract
  • 1⁄8 tsp. cinnamon


  • Spread a thin film of butter on each slice of bread. Put cheeses, turkey, and ham on the buttered side of 2 slices of bread. Top with remaining bread, butter side in. Cut each sandwich in half diagonally to form two triangles. Cut each triangle diagonally again.
  • Mix together the eggs, milk, vanilla, and cinnamon to make the custard. Melt remaining butter in skillet over medium heat.
  • Dip all sides of each sandwich triangle into the custard mixture and cook in skillet, browning on all sides. Serve warm.
