Poached Figs

These poached figs are perfect for a snack or dessert.

  • ½ cup water
  • ½ cup apple juice
  • 2 tsp. honey
  • 2 tsp. sugar
  • 1 vanilla bean, split
  • 1 orange, sliced
  • 8 oz. fresh figs
  • 2 cups vanilla ice cream


  • In a small saucepan over medium heat, combine the water, apple juice, honey, sugar, and vanilla bean. Heat through until hot but not boiling, about 5 minutes.
  • Place the oranges and figs into a 2-quart slow cooker. Pour hot water/apple juice mixture over them. Cook on low for 5 hours or until the figs are cooked through and starting to split.
  • Remove the figs from the poaching liquid and serve with ice cream.
