These are the best beans to serve with your barbecue, and they are a departure from the usual baked beans that you can buy in a can.

  • 1 can (15 oz.) pinto beans
  • ¼ cup chopped bacon
  • ¼ cup chopped onion
  • ½ cup chopped tomatoes
  • 1 Tbsp. chopped jalapeño
  • ¼ tsp. salt
  • ⅛ tsp. ground black pepper
  • 2 Tbsp. chopped cilantro


  • Combine everything except cilantro in a skillet and bring to a simmer. Simmer, stirring occasionally, for 45 minutes. Sprinkle with cilantro before serving.
