Raspberry-Blackberry Granita

The more varieties of fruit you use, the better. Try other berries, kiwi fruit, or fresh peaches.

Serves: 6

  • 1½ cups sugar
  • ⅔ cups water
  • 1½ pints raspberries
  • 2½ pints blackberries
  • 1 cup blueberries
  • ¼ cup lemon juice

  • Mix the sugar and water together in a large saucepan and bring to a boil. Reduce heat and simmer until all of the sugar is dissolved.
  • Add the berries and cook for 6 minutes. Strain the liquid and add the lemon juice.
  • Place in your freezer in ice trays. Occasionally break up the granita with a fork so that it does not turn into a block of ice. Or use an ice cream freezer to make your granita. The ice cream freezer will increase the shelf life of the granita, making it a sorbet. Soften slightly before serving.
