Broiled Grapefruit

The high heat caramelizes the sugary topping and highlights the natural sweetness of the grapefruit. It also tenderizes the pulp, making it easy to spoon right from the peel.

Ingredients

  • 2 red grapefruits, halved
  • 8 tsp. brown sugar, honey or maple syrup, divided
  • 1 cup yogurt, divided (optional)
  • 4 tbsp. crushed walnuts, divided (optional)

Directions

  • With rack in center of oven, set broiler to high. Line rimmed baking sheet with foil.
  • With sharp paring knife, cut around each segment of grapefruit to loosen pulp from peel and membrane. Place cut-side up on prepared baking sheet. Sprinkle each half with 2 teaspoons sugar, honey or maple syrup.
  • Broil 5 minutes or until topping is melted and slightly caramelized. Top each with ΒΌ cup yogurt and 1 tablespoon walnuts, if desired. Refrigerate any leftovers.
