Saltines

These crisp crackers are just as good with soup as the store-bought kind, maybe better. Sprinkle the tops with coarse salt, sesame seed, or leave plain.

Ingredients

  • 2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 tsp. salt
  • ½ tsp. baking soda
  • ¼ cup butter, softened
  • 1½ cups sour milk
  • 1 large egg

Directions

  • Preheat oven to 400°F. Lightly grease baking sheet.
  • Sift dry ingredients into a large bowl. Cut in butter until coarse crumbs are formed. Add milk and egg; blend together.
  • Knead dough until smooth. Let rest 10 minutes. Roll very thin on a floured surface.
  • Cut in squares or other shapes; place on baking sheet and prick with a fork. Bake 10 minutes.
