Simple Chocolate Ice Cream

Lots of heavy cream makes this recipe smooth and luxurious. For extra decadence, toss in a half cup of dark-chocolate chips to the final few spins of the ice cream machine.

  • 3 cups heavy cream
  • 1 cup whole milk
  • ¾ cup sweetened cocoa powder
  • 2 Tbsp. cocoa powder
  • ¼ cup brown sugar
  • ⅔ cup sugar
  • ¼ tsp. salt
  • 1 Tbsp. vanilla extract


  • In a saucepan over medium heat, combine all ingredients except vanilla until sugar is dissolved. Remove from heat and add vanilla. Stir to combine.
  • Allow to chill in refrigerator for 3–4 hours, or overnight.
  • Once chilled, add to ice cream maker and follow manufacturer’s instructions for freezing.
