Slow Cooker Groats

Oat groats are oats that have been hulled but left whole, thus retaining their high nutritional value because they haven’t been extensively processed. They take a long time to cook, making them perfect for the slow cooker!

Ingredients

  • 2 cups gluten-free oat groats
  • 6 cups water
  • 2 cinnamon sticks
  • 1 tsp. salt
  • ½ packed cup light brown sugar
  • Maple syrup, brown sugar, and milk, for topping.

Directions

  • Add all the ingredients except the toppings to a 4- or 6-quart slow cooker and cook on low for 8–10 hours. Top individual portions with maple syrup, a sprinkle of brown sugar, and milk.
