Spiced Mashed Sweet Potatoes

You don’t have to prepare sweet potatoes with crunchy or candy toppings to make them delicious. This is a tasty, and very nutritious, alternative to the traditional serving of buttered mashed potatoes. If you like sweet potatoes, you’ll love this side.

  • 3 large sweet potatoes, peeled and cubed
  • 1 tsp. ground cinnamon
  • 1 tsp. ground nutmeg
  • 1 cup almond milk


  • Place sweet potatoes in a large saucepan. Add enough water to cover potatoes. Bring to a boil over medium heat. Reduce heat to low, and simmer until fork-tender, about 30 minutes.
  • Remove potatoes from heat, drain, and return to saucepan.
  • Add cinnamon and nutmeg to sweet potatoes. Mash or beat until smooth, adding almond milk 1⁄4 cup at a time until desired consistency is reached.
  • Serve hot.
