Spicy Hot Beef Sandwiches

Ingredients

  • 1 Tbsp. olive oil
  • 2 medium white onions, peeled and chopped
  • 1 can beef broth
  • 1 cup tomato paste
  • 1 chuck roast (3½ lbs.) braised, cooled, and shredded
  • ¾ cup chopped celery
  • 3 Tbsp. apple cider vinegar
  • 3 Tbsp. Worcestershire sauce
  • 3 Tbsp. packed brown sugar
  • 1 tsp. paprika
  • 1 tsp. ground red pepper
  • 1 tsp. ground black pepper
  • 1 tsp. chili powder
  • 3 bay leaves
  • 10 hamburger buns

Directions

  • In a large Dutch oven, heat oil over medium-high heat. Cook onions in the oil until translucent, about 3 to 4 minutes. Add broth and tomato paste, and cook for about 5 minutes, stirring until paste is well dissolved.
  • Transfer broth mixture to a slow cooker. Add roast, celery, vinegar, Worcestershire sauce, brown sugar, paprika, red pepper, black pepper, chili powder, and bay leaves. Mix well.
  • Cook on low for 6 hours, turning roast occasionally. Remove bay leaves.
  • Serve hot on hamburger buns.
