Spicy, Tart Applesauce

Spicy, tart applesauce is great with sausages and with many other meats.

  • 6 large, tart apples such as Granny Smith or McIntosh
  • Juice of 1 lemon and a 1" strip of lemon peel
  • ½ cup water
  • 2 Tbsp. brown sugar
  • 1 tsp. ground cinnamon
  • ¼ tsp. ground nutmeg
  • 1 tsp. salt
  • 1 tsp. Tabasco sauce


  • Peel, core, and coarsely chop the apples into chunks. Place the apples in a saucepan with the rest of the ingredients. Bring to a boil and then lower the heat. Simmer for 10 minutes. Serve hot or cold.
