Spicy, Tart Applesauce
Spicy, tart applesauce is great with sausages and with many other meats.

- 6 large, tart apples such as Granny Smith or McIntosh
- Juice of 1 lemon and a 1" strip of lemon peel
- ½ cup water
- 2 Tbsp. brown sugar
- 1 tsp. ground cinnamon
- ¼ tsp. ground nutmeg
- 1 tsp. salt
- 1 tsp. Tabasco sauce
- Peel, core, and coarsely chop the apples into chunks. Place the apples in a saucepan with the rest of the ingredients. Bring to a boil and then lower the heat. Simmer for 10 minutes. Serve hot or cold.
