Tomato Sauce

Use this slow-cooked sauce to make spaghetti, lasagna, or pizza.

Ingredients

  • 1 cup diced onion
  • ½ cup diced green bell pepper
  • ¼ cup chopped garlic
  • ½ cup olive oil
  • ½ cup chopped fresh tomato
  • 3 cups canned tomato purée
  • 2 cups crushed tomatoes
  • 1 cup tomato paste
  • 2 cups water
  • 1 Tbsp. sugar
  • 2 Tbsp. dried oregano
  • 2 Tbsp. dried basil
  • 1 Tbsp. onion powder
  • 1 tsp. garlic powder
  • 1 Tbsp. salt
  • 1 Tbsp. ground black pepper
  • 1 tsp. crushed red pepper
  • 2 Tbsp. chopped fresh parsley

Directions

  • Sauté onion, bell pepper, and garlic in olive oil 15 minutes over medium heat. Add remaining ingredients and bring to a boil.
  • Reduce heat until liquid is simmering and cook for 3 hours, stirring occasionally. Adjust seasoning with salt.
