This makes a delicious sauce for berries, pudding, or gingerbread.

- 2 cups water
- 1 cup granulated sugar or vanilla sugar
- 2 Tbsp. cornstarch
- ¼ cup butter
- 1 Tbsp. vanilla extract
- Dash salt
- In a medium saucepan, bring water to a boil over high heat. Combine sugar and cornstarch in a small cup, blending well, and then stir mixture into boiling water. Reduce heat to medium. Cook sauce, stirring constantly, until thickened.
- Remove from heat and add butter, vanilla, and a dash of salt. Stir until butter is melted.
- Store sauce in a jar or tightly covered container in the refrigerator for 1–2 weeks.
