Vegan Flour Tortillas
Flour tortillas are a classic Mexican flatbread and a perfect wrap for your favorite burrito fillings. For that little something extra, try reheating cooked tortillas over an open flame until charred in spots.

- 2 cups all-purpose flour
- 1 tsp. baking powder
- ½ tsp. sea salt
- 2 Tbsp. vegetable shortening
- ¾ cup water
- In a large bowl, whisk together flour, baking powder, and salt. Mix in shortening by hand until mixture resembles crumbs. Gradually add water, mixing by hand, until dough can be gathered together in a ball. Add additional water 1 tablespoon at a time as needed if dough is too dry.
- Knead dough 4–5 minutes on a floured surface, until dough becomes smooth and elastic. Cover and allow dough to rest for 1 hour. Divide dough into 10 equal pieces, each shaped into a ball. Roll out each ball into an ⅛" thick circle, on a lightly floured surface. Preheat an ungreased skillet over medium-high heat. Cook tortillas for 1–2 minutes on each side. Keep prepared tortillas warm while others are being cooked.
