Vegan Whole-Wheat Sandwich Loaf

Homemade, hearty whole-wheat bread just calls out for homegrown tomatoes and ripe avocado!

  • 1 3⁄8 cups water
  • 1⁄2 cup soy milk
  • 5 cups whole-wheat flour
  • 3 Tbsp. sugar
  • 2 tsp. salt
  • 4 Tbsp. vital wheat gluten
  • 2 Tbsp. vegan margarine
  • 2 tsp. active dry yeast


  • Assemble bread machine with the dough paddle in place. Bring all ingredients to room temperature.
  • Add all ingredients to the pan in the order indicated in your machine’s operation manual. Proceed according to manufacturer’s directions for whole-wheat bread.
  • Cool for 10 minutes, then remove from pan. Cool bread completely before slicing. Store in an airtight container or freeze.
