Vietnamese Beef Broth

Use to add flavor to beef or vegetable dishes. Nonalcoholic red wine can be used in place of the red wine.

  • 2 garlic cloves
  • 2 scallions
  • 5 cups beef broth
  • 1 cup red wine
  • 3 slices ginger
  • 3 tsp. spicy chili garlic sauce
  • 4½ tsp. fish sauce


  • Smash and peel the garlic and roughly chop the scallions.
  • Combine all the ingredients in large saucepan and bring to a boil. Reduce heat to medium low and simmer 25 minutes.
  • Strain broth and discard solids.
